A Welcome Note from the Directors' Desk

Dr. R. Kumalo

Prof. R Simangaliso Kumalo

Welcome to the Religion, Governance and Africa in the World Programme (RGAWP) website of the School of Religion at Philosophy and Classics, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

We are happy that you have visited our website. It is said that Africans are notoriously religious but at the same time their religiosity does not seem to help them when it comes to issues pertaining to politics and good governance. This programme was founded some eight years ago through the collaboration of the School of Religion and Theology (SORAT) and the religious community of KwaZulu-Natal. Its aim was to create a forum where research, teaching and learning interface with issues of religion, democracy building and good governance. Over the years we have hosted a number of workshops, symposia, lectures and seminars on these issues. We also offer attractive post graduate modules on religion and politics in Africa. Therefore, you are invited to join us in exploring these issues relating to research and teaching. You can join us by either participating in our research projects, seminars and workshops or by following our blog on issues about governance in Africa.
